<AC> Troubleshooting help needed

Hi,

My E28 M5 AC seems to have issues -- it blows cold for a while (20
minutes or so) when the car itself is cold but then starts to degrade in
performance very quickly. If the car is hot it will really struggle and
often fail to cool the car. If the ambient temp is low (60-70 F) it
seems to work OK, but if I stop and let the cool air out, it's all over.

Is this just a case of low Freon ? Any help would be most appreciated.
