Re. E30 Timing Worry...Where In Chicago?

Hi,

Just read your note on the digest about your cambelt. The problem you have
with the revs rising then falling accompanied with a judder/jerk sounds to
me more likely to be a failing/ slipping clutch or torque converter. When
cam belts slip, the engine goes bang! When the cam belt brakes, the engine
goes bang! When the timing is out, the car runs like a
three-legged-hairy-goat!! So you can see that I'm not convinced its the
belt. Its a good idea to have the belt changed if you are unsure of the
history of it though, its cheap insurance against a new engine!

Best of luck

Sean.
