In Australia they have what I believe is called "caravan racing". Brett can
correct me on the correct nomenclature. It consists of a small pick up truck
towing a camping trailer on a dirt roundy-round track. Contact is permitted,
and if not permitted certainly is encouraged. I've seen this (not in real
life, but on TV) and it is really pretty exciting.
I propose that we get a similar event going in the USA but using trailers with
an E36 on them. And Road Rage is permitted, tail lights on the trailer are
optional.
While we're on the subject of rules, no E36 can be strapped on the trailer by
its wheels. Ever. Ya see, the wheel/spindle is really the weakest part of the
car. Go to your local dealer when a shipment of new cars is being unloaded.
Make notes, see how its done. Work with facts, not opinions. Also, watch a car
transporter with 10 or so cars on it when it hits a "thank you m'aam" on the
highways. See the movement? Watch them in a cosswinds too. Then figger out
why the NJ Turnpike only allows non-professional trailers on the Pike a few
days a year. Hint, it it not because you money ain't green enough. And I'm
sure that guys who do this for a lviing year round will be really impressed
with yer suggestions to tie a car down by passing a cargo strap through the
wheels. Or by using a longer one going over the circumference of a wheel.
With all the disinfomation on the Crygest about how to lash down a car a lot
of you will understand why I allow two lanes to pass a car (BMW or other) on a
trailer. Nothing beats the rush you get when you see a race car skidding on
its roof after coming off a trailer. The worst part is it usually is
travelling at a speed exceeding you and as it scrubs off speed on its roof it
is slowing to your speed and changing direction too. Yeeeeehaaaah.
