Over-revved M3's

I've spoken with several techs at different dealerships here in NJ and all
have had several M3 engine failures come through their shops.  Diagnostics
through the Modic indicate "Rev Limit Exceeded" followed by strings of code
which cannot be interpreted by the dealer.  BMWNA has requested the control
units and the tape printouts for all claims so that they can
extract/translate the code into actual RPM's  (some cases reported in the
12-14k RPM range) and other relevant data.  Owners are being held
accountable for these failures and required to pay (at least in part) for
the repairs. SD
