The stiff clutch can be caused by a broken ear on the side of the
throwout bearing. A misalligned throwout bearing will continue to work for
a while, but can gnaw its way thru the fingers of the diaphram pressure
plate.
Do not touch the return spring....you'll really be sorry. I've had to
deal with them upon changing clutch master cylinders...it isn't a pretty
sight.
The BRAKE flash upon stabbing the brake pedal is in response to
inadequate boost coming from the hydra-accumulator called the "bomb". The
boost pressure is released in small "doses" so the light appears in small
doses.
Time for a new accumulator. With motor off, press on the brake bedal
12-15 times to bleed-off all residual boost pressure before unscrewing the
old bomb.
Make sure the new bomb has its new O-ring properly located before
screwing it in place. Be careful.
