that's because you tried the wrong kind of "shop". any decent racing
operation should have a proper set of scales. Spraker Racing in
Rotterdam, New York is an example of the type; they're a BGN-North
operation that does motorsports prep work for others.

i just mentioned Spraker above; also, many SCCA regions own sets of
portable scales. for example, i'm chief of tech for the New York Region
of the SCCA, and i happen to have custody of NYR's portable Longacre
scales. the New England Region and North New Jersey Region also own
portable scales, as other examples of SCCA scales that exist in the
Northeast.
Down where Rick is, Rob Dyson's IMSA racing operation almost certainly
owns a set of portable scales.
