<E30> Oil Pan bashings...

I was a t Mesa Performance in Costa Mesa the other day looking at their
fine assortment of BMW products.

I saw that they had an " Oil Pan protector" on the wall for the 6cyl
E30's.  It was this cage looking thing that went around the Oil Pan, to
protect it.

I have aftermarket springs in my car, and noticed that the lowest part of
the underside was the oil pan.  I asked the guy at Mesa Performance and he
said that he has sold quite a few new oil pans to replace damaged ones
that had suffered impact.

My question to digesters:  Has there been many occurences of this among
us?  Any other ways of protecting the pan besides the cage?  The protector
didn't appear to be that strong.  Does anyone have the protector, and how
strong is it?
