Re: bmw-digest V5 #208
Hello Everyone-
I was on this list about 2 yeas ago, when I still had my 85 318i. This
past summer, as the mileage hit 110,000 on the 318i, I was browsing the
apaer and saw an '88 325i convertable with 69k for sale- and I saw it,
fell in love with it and bought it. 5 speed, red with black top and bacl leatherr,
a big improvement in power and luxury over the 318i.
Anyway, after a few quirks with teh car, two constant irritating problems
persist-
1) Everytime I turn the car off I smell oil burning. My mechanic chaced
checked it out and found nothing, at least that the car is not burning oil
internally- the smell comes directly from the engine, not from the rear.
Is this normal, and has anyone had a similar experiewnce?
2) The idle is quite rough. My mechanci insists that it is typical of 325I
BMW's to have rough idle, but it seems too rough to me. It is normal? It is
extremely rough when first started, then gets better once warmed up, but
it seems excessive- my 318i idled better than this car does.
One last inquiry- I am in desperate need of a new top for this car and
want to start looking- the fist place i called agve me a pricew of about
1600 dollars (I am in New York, Long Island) I was wondering if anyone knew
of a place to take the car for a new roof that wasn't so expensive.
Thank you all and it's good to be bacxk on here.
