<E30> ticking noises

I have an 88 eta engine that is making some loud ticking noises from 
about 2K rpm up.  It sounds like excess valve clearance on one valve, 
but the they are all adjusted to spec and there is no play between the 
rocker arms and the shaft.  I think it may be a fuel injector, can they 
make this kind of noise?  The only other thing I've been told it may be 
is a leaking intake manifold gasket.  How do you check for a leaking 
gasket, and if it's and injector can they be disconnected one by one to 
isolate the noisy one?
