Don Mies gave instructions pertaining to his '85 635.
On my '86 635, the door panel does not have "normal plastic door
panel anchors" all the way around. The edge closest to the door
hinge (down by the map pocket) holds on via 2 molded fingers.
If you pry hard on that side, you could break the fingers or warp the panel.
Follow most of Don's advice, and use a flashlight to peer between the pieces.
If you have the fingers, you'll have to pivot the panel away from the
door hinge.
