Anthony - No fan shroud, huh? That is probably your problem. The
shroud's purpose is to direct the fan's airflow through the radiator.
Without it, the fan just kind off paddles the air around with not much
being drawn across the radiator. My '88 M3 has a shroud. It is a one
piece affair the same size as the radiator core. A screw on each side
holds it to the radiator and two tabs locate the bottom. I looked on
mine for a P/N but couldn't find one. Price can't be too much, cheaper
than a warped cylinder head caused by overheating. look for signs of it
being there once upon a time...the metal clips on the radiator tabs, wear
marks, etc. If I were to but anything for this concern, the shroud would
be it.
