<Paint Protection> StonGard. Part II
Dan,
Your story sounds pretty upbeat - obviously since you just bough into the thing
:). I'd be very much interested to hear your observations in couple of months.
Before then however, I have couple follow up questions if you'd be kind enough
to share the data, and some comments after that.
QUESTIONS:
1. Thickness of the film. What is 8 mil ? It sure as hell is not 8mm -
millimeters - 0.8 cm. Is it 0.8 mm ? I am looking at the sample right now and
it is definitely thinner than 1mm.
2.a What is the durability of the film once it's applied ? How long will it
last before it needs to be removed and re-applied (or peels off by itself -
yes/no) ?
2.b How long before another $250 needs to be shelled out for the replacement ?
3. You say you went to StonGard people to apply it. I live in Wash. DC area -
way too far from LA for me to make the trip worth while, though I am sure the
town is lovely :). Who else can apply the film ?
4. If the film remains on the car for extended period of time (years) then isn't
repetitive washing/waxing of all exposed surfaces going to change the paint
surface gloss/shade in relation to the areas covered ? IOW, when you take the
film off won't covered areas have visibly different color/shade ?
5.a If they, StonGard, only became a business because Tim's friends asked for a
lot of film, then where did he, Tim, get the film to begin with ?
5.b Can we, the populus, get said film from the same place he, Tim, gets his ?
Granted, it wouldn't be nicely cut to fit a bimmer.
5.c If 4.b is YES, then would it also be $250,- or just a little less for the
fitting cut and Tim's profit ?
6. Broke up with my girlfriend today. Know any available late twenties blondes
with blue eyes and brains in DC ? Possibly with a thing for BMWs and European
accents ? !:-D
COMMENTS:
1. Bras - Agreed - PITA, and have potential of causing damage themselves.
Furthermore, aesthetically benefits are controversial to say the least. Some of
them are also unremoveable unless you make her do it ;).
2. If the film turns out to work, IOW - lasts few years (2+) without significant
replacement/repair costs I would agree that it is worth the $250 and I will buy
it.
3. I guess I still need more live people success stories to completely trust it.
No offense Dan, but I have a policy not to trust stories about salesman's
friends - Tim and his racing buddies. Particularly if they are positive. I
don't know - call me cynical !
