A VDO Gauge Rebuild Tidbit

I recently had some problems with repairing a '77-vintage VDO clock, and
decided to pass my experience on to the list(s).

A couple of years ago I decided to paint the hands/pointers on my clock
"fluorescent" orange (to match allo the other gauges, which I had also
painted).  In order to get to the hands, I had to undo/remove the bezel
that holds the "glass" to the front of the clock -- I used a jeweler's file
to cut through the bezel ring in one spot.

Well, I finally got around to sending to clock in for a new bezel.  It
turns out (two shops confirmed this) that this particular clock's bezel is
NLA.  But, it's also the case that the good shops have a machine to remove
and re-install (unmolested) bezels _without_damaging_them_.

SO THE MORAL IS -- don't cut your bezel open (unless you have a spare) --
let the shop remove it for you!

Now I know ... sniff.
