I've fitted 215/50R15 on my 325es (E30). There seems to be sufficient space
for 225/50R15 but its highly dependant on your wheels and it offset. I've
got TSW Hockenheims (great looking 7" inch rims) with significant offset.
Actually it is alittle too much offset, ie. pushing the tire/wheel outward.
If I put 225/50R15 on my setup, the tire tread would actually stick out
beyond the fender!
