>From the August 1996 "BMW car" pp.6-7, "Million-mile motor":
" A 1990 BMW 325i has just completed the world's first ever one-mililion
mile test as part of Mobil Oil's research. This is equivalent to
circumnavigating the world more than 40 times.
The test was carried out at Mobil's New Jersey Research Centre in
the US over four years. All BMW service intervals were observed
throughout the test using Mobil 1 engine oil and Mobil Super Unleaded
Plus petrol.
At the end, most engine parts were found to be still within the
manufacturer's tolerances. The valves were clean and the cam lobes were
in exellent condition despite the camshaft turning more than one billion
times. The exhaust emission were kept within tough US standards and the
catalytic convertor was chaned at regular 200,000 mile intervals.
In the real world, this is comparable to driving 15,000 hard miles a
year for 66 years."
So George, you did change your catalytic converter every 200,000 miles, right?
