Oil Viscosity

I noticed that the dealer puts 20w50 in my car.  Since I've started doing
oil changes myself, I've been doing the same in the warm summer months.
Wondering what the experiences and/or recommendations are for a fall/winter
oil viscosity...it gets cold here in Northeastern Wisconsin USA.
