I recently bought a nice (2 piece) Colgan bra for the SU's iX to
avoid gravel/sand damage. It work out well and looks O.K. when on
the car. My plan is to use it primarily in the winter sand/salt
months.
My advice is that if you are willing to take it off, dry and clean
it carefully, and then put it on when you think you need it, it is
well worth the $100 that it costs.
OTOH, if you want to stick it on and forget it, you will get to
touch up more paint damage than store chips. They get very hot in
the sun and any moisture trapped in the material and the soft nappy
lining gets boiled out right against your paint.
Also, I have run a couple of long trips with the bra in place and
haven't yet noticed any paint deterioration. However, the key to
preventing this is to keep the bra clean, dry, and tight. Install
it right the first time and check and adjust (if necessary) it to
keep from vibrating and/or flapping each time you stop.
IMHO, the Clogan bra is a nice product and well made.
YMMV, but, it was good for me.
