All U.S.-spec BMW's built since 1988 have CARB-mandated flash codes
just waiting to be accessed ...
Turn car to ON position but don't start ..
IMMEDIATELY press accel. pedal to floor five times within 5 seconds
The car should flash 1444 if everything is OK ...
Of course, this is U.S., and speculative in the U.K.
