320i fun

On the weekend some interesting things happened to me and
my 320i that I thought I'd share (FYI).

A bunch of snow fell and I noticed where I work the parking
lot had *lots* of snow, and *no* cars. :) What to do ?
The snow was so deep that it scraped on the underside of the
car. I just wanted to see if I could actually drive through it.
Sideways.
Backwards.
And all manners in between.

It was really cool trying long four wheel drifts with snow
billowing over the car.

It must have looked good because a few other cars stopped, watched
me and then came in to play. Front wheel drives didn't have
nearly the fun I was having. It was sad to see them try donuts
and have to do them in reverse.

After this playing, I drove off home. Guess what ? *NO* brakes.
Have you ever tried using the brakes with no vacuum assist ?
It felt *worse* than that. It was really weird standing on the
brakes and coming to a gentle and gradual stop.

I borrowed someones garage because I needed to do some work
on the car. Luckily this melted all the snow jammed in the
rotors and brakes returned.

Whenever it gets cold here (-20C the last few nights) my
car starter doesn't go. Okay, my mechanic said it was just
the key switch getting flaky. Lots of money to replace.
He suggested wiring in a push button switch that shorts
12V to the starter.

So I did, took power from the 'ignition on' wiring, mounted
the switch neatly, and presto! this morning when I turned the
key and nothing happened, I just pushed the switch.
The car started right up.
A couple of hours playing with the wiring and $2 bucks
for a push button and I'm all set.
