My 76 2002 had approx 110k miles when I rebuilt it and I was suprised to
find what good shape the motor was it once I tore it down. If the oil has
been changed religiously, a re-ring could buy new life to your engine.
The smoke you see burning is mostly from warn valve guides. Rebuilding
the head would take care of this problem. A reputable machine shop will
clean, test and rebuild the head for a very reasonable price. This is a
good time to upgrade the valve springs also.
Good luck,
