2002 Brakes

I have a 1974 2002.  For about one week I have had an occasional, slight 
squeal, apparently from the front right wheel.  The sound is similar to 
brake squeal.  Slightly depressing the brake pedal makes the sound go away.  
Yesterday the brake warning light on the dash began to flicker 
intermittently and, today, a moderately loud howl suddenly began that got 
deeper as I slowed.  Fortunately, I was only about one block from home.

Has anyone experienced this, or have any ideas as to probable cause?
