Saga of E36 coldstart problems

Well, as some of you know, Ann has had a recurring no-start on her
1994 325i during (*it seemed*) cold weather ..

The first solution was a "re-coding" of the DME control unit, which
DID NOTHING to solve OUR problem ..

Then came the recriminations .. "If the recode didn't fix it, YOU must have
broke it with your *tampering*" ... (the tabs on the DME cover were bent ;)

Now, (maybe) comes the solution ... (and yes, they're eating CROW!)

It turns out that FINALLY they got the problem to happen, and traced it to
an intermittent (thermal/mech. failures) relay (fuel pump or main) which
finally DIED for good at the dealer ..

I only note this whole thing, to reiterate that to find a problem ...

  FIRST CHECK THE BASICS ...

Then worry about the intricate workings of the FI programming ...

My dealer seemed to forget that

PS: We'll see if this "fix" really works !!
