Actually it started with the new body style (M50) in 1992. The 325is
was purely a two door 325i, with some variation in body panels.
To get to the previous 325is in "features" you would have to
add leather, trip computer and sports package(& limited slip).
I test drove a 325is without the sports package and left in my 89
325is thinking that I wasn't impressed. I was able to get the rear
end loose and also felt the handling was vague. I am sure that the
sports package changes this, but my local BMW dealer had none.
The new 325i/is is definately more refined, and quiter.
