new archive features

how to get digest archives

first of all, some of you ran into the "private" feature of the list.
this means that your email address, as it appears in the usual
message headers, is not the same as the one you are subscribed with.
i located and disabled the check for this; you can now fetch old digests
from any email address on the internet.

to get an index for the digest, send email to  majordomo@domain.elided
with the command

index bmw-digest

as the only content of the message.  there are no archives for the non
digest version of the list, so you will get nothing back from "index bmw"
the result that comes back will look very much like this:

these may be fetched by sending a get command to majordomo,
such as

get bmw-digest v02.n001

to fetch volume 2, number 1.  note that the new digests start with
volume 2; i have arbitrarily declared volume 1 to be all of the
old digests from before we switched over.
