[bmw] E39 Angel eyes (Was DRL upgrade question)

Sorry guys - the make and model of my car is a 1998 540...
 
I'm interested in upgrading to the newer lights since mine are completely sand blasted from these New England winters. I have the daytime running lights (DRL) would these still work with the newer (>2001) lights?
