E30 gas smell source

Be sure to check the "fuel dampeners" under the hood.  They are thin round
metal units placed in the fuel line between the firewall and fuel rail - may
be more than one.  They leak and can safely be removed and replaced with
longer pieces of appropriate fuel line.

These began leaking on my '85 325e just about 2 years ago.
