[alfa] Dual Point Set-ups & Motronics

Hi

Reading thru ' a recent digest about dual point set-ups - As I remember some
performance cars (Alfa's ?) used them to sort out ignition problems at high
revs. If I remember correctly it had to do with coil saturation time, but I
cannot remember how the set-up worked ( I think it is somewhere in one of
Graham Balls books) Can anyone on the digest enlighten me. Would you gain
any benefit from such a dizzy on an Autocross car ?

The other question I have is about the Motronic on my 2000 8 valve Opel
daily driver that someone may be able to help me with. I recently did a
complete rebuild on the motor after about 250 000 Km. The car runs well but
is pinging when it is lugging in low gear which it never did before. I am
guessing that there is a shade too much spark advance or it is a bit lean. I
am not sure what motronic is fitted, but it does not have an O2 sensor in
the exhaust or any emission control equipment (South African car) Is there
any way the motor can be made to run a bit richer or the advance can be set
or do I need to have it dynotuned & the ignition map adjusted ?

Thanks
