[alfa] Bob Rand --exhaust
Bob,
I haven't dealt with Stebro before, however i did have an Ansa on my '87
Spider Veloce for a while (removed, and recently sold, along with 2 rolls of
packing tape). I removed the old exhaust system, replaced with header from
VickAuto. Followed immediately by highflow cat.conv. It then had straight
pipe, to Ansa, just like yours does. I removed the pipe and Ansa, purchased
a 2.5" Summit glasspack, tip, and dropped the car off at my mechanics. The
"muffler" sits beneath the car, and then is straight (well, bent to navigate
rearend) pipe to the back (i think its 2.25" ID). It does not make that oh
so popular of late buzzing that "H" cars have, instead it makes a fairly
deep grumble -- and one helluva noise when you take it to 5500 in second
gear, and then just take your foot off the throttle and leave it alone. The
get up and go is great -- and i've noticed a fair improvement in top gear
acceleeration, even at low (~40mph) speeds. Now before anyone yells at me
for bastardizing an Alfa with a glasspack, please realize that i was unable
to drive for 2 months (medical, not legal reasons), had power tools, and
nothing else to do. Besides, i like the sound, so pthhhhhhhb. :)

ps: Pat Crawford, if you're out there, the Alfetta comes along well; has
carpeting and back seats, and occasionally a tv on the hood for playing gran
tourismo on my brother's ps2.

Subject: [alfa] Stebro or ANSA
I currently have the following exhaust configuration on my '87 Alfa Spider
Quad Verde.
IAP tubular headers>>>cat. conv.>>>straight pipe>>>ANSA resonator. (I
removed
the center muffler to change the exhaust note and I like it.)
However, the ANSA resonator (bought new and not that old) has rusted
through
and impinging on the gas tank. Can't get an inspection sticker with it
this
way.
So... Does anyone have experience with the Stebro stainless resonator???
I
know they are about $60 more than the ANSA. How do they sound? Is the
stainless really rust-free because not all stainless is? Is the tip chromed
like the ANSA?
Thanks to all for your help.
Bob Rand
