[alfa] 74 GTV mystery box
The aluminum box under the dash, behind or next to the glovebox, is the
seatbelt interlock device that the feds mandated in 1973. This would prevent
the engine from starting until everybody was belted in. And then it would
sometimes still prevent starting.
You may recall there was a certain amount of public pressure put on our
elected officials and the whole thing was withdrawn quickly. New car owners
had the thing disabled at no cost by the dealer. If you clean it carefully,
you use it as a paperweight.
