[alfa] Hello Again and 164 Fuel Pump Removal x 3

Hello again Alfisti,

It has been more than a year since I have posted to the list. It has been
a year with many ups and downs, but I've continued to read the digest
occasionally even though I've made no contributions. My 164 is still going
strong :-), although it has absorbed a fair bit of cash during this last
year :-(

The problems of the short fuel hose in the tank splitting and the consequet
hard starting are well documented. I had this problem about two years ago
- I pulled the pump out and the hose appeared OK. I replaced it anyway,
but the hard starting persisted.

The problem turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. It must have an
internal diagpragm that had split - when I pulled the vacuum hose, fuel
spurted out. This was the reason for the drop in fuel pressure.

You can check the regulator in a few seconds by pulling the vacuum hose off
it. Changing the regulator takes about five minutes. Worth checking first
before you spend an afternoon in the boot!!

Cheers,
