[alfa] Re: Brake MC bore and brand name

Hi Stefano:

I can't speak specifically about your brake MC, but I've got a new Metelli clutch MC on my '87 Spider. As far as I'm concerned, sub-standard would be about the kindest description I could come up with. Compared to the original Bonaldi, it has a few shortcomings. For one, the pushrod is adjusted to max length, and the clutch pedal is still quite low. It also has less travel, so it does work, but in turn, it requires much more force to operate (that should indicate a larger ID, by the way). The fluid reservoir (tiny compared to the Bonaldi) is also screwed on crooked, so it's cocked about 30 degrees, and that is another annoyance, at least to me. I would have sent it back to Vick, but after replacing the clutch pedal pivot and slave, I was just tired of screwing with it, for the time being. It will get replaced, if/when I can find a Bonaldi or Ate part. BTW, that's the second clutch MC I purchased, and the first one from Linea Rossa was even worse (looked to be of Eastern European origin, but I can't recall the name). Am I the only one who wants original parts? The one from Linea Rossa was inexpensive, but Vick's sure wasn't.

Subject: [alfa] Brake MC bore and brand name

Hey cats,

I just got my new brake master cylinder for my Alfetta
in the mail today. It is brand name Metelli. On the box
it says 05-0127 Alfetta - Alfa 75-90 -GTV ad. OE
60517201 dia 22,20mm.

Is this 22.2mm with the European use of a comma as the
decimal point, or is this saying the part will fit 22mm or
20mm cars? If the later, can the figure be measured without
taking it apart, ie, is it the inside bore where the circlip is
resting up against?

And what about that brand name? I've never heard of it.
I'm sure it will work, but does anyone know if it is sub
standard? Won't last as long, etc.?

Thanks,
Stefano
