[alfa] Re: 91 164 For Sale-Skipped Cam Belt

My Alfa specialist told me that where a belt has skipped rather than stripped
or broken, it is often worth getting a new belt on and retiming it before
pulling it apart. It does depend on the noises that emanated when the event
happened, but he said they have successfully revived a small but significant
number of engines where the owner thought the valvegear was crunched. Sadly,
this is not always the case however.

Any prospective purchase might like to give it a try. In the next few months
when I have nothing better to do I will take the rear head off my old 24v
engine. There is certainly no damage on the front bank valves, and the inlets
on the rear bank seem OK...just can't see those exhaust valves where I suspect
the damage is.
