[alfa] Clutch bleeding

Clutch bleeding '89 Spider.
 I have just put my clutch back together and can't seem to get the full travel. The slave cylinder only travels about 6mm as opposed to the 11 to 12 listed in the manual. Also, the clutch pedal doesn't seem to be returning to its proper position. 
I believe that there was a discussion reguarding this same problem a few weeks back, but I can't seem to find it.
