[alfa] The Alfetta instrument placement thing

Don't know that anyone is still hanging breathlessly on the last jot and
tittle of the Alfetta tach-location saga, but Biba persevered in his research
to find "a small drawing and photo of a SZ dash. They identify all the
switches and controls but fail to point out what the medium sized three
instruments are grouped in front of the driver. I believe the tach is on the
left, the speedo on the right, and what appears to be a Giulietta tripod
instrument (fuel, oil temp, water temp) gauge in the center. Most curious.
Obviously they learned from their 'mistake' when they made the TZ1."

FWIW, and not to quibble egregiously with the esteemed Biba, the parts books
indicate that while the speedometer is to the right, as he says, the tach is
centered over the steering column and the three joined lesser instruments are
on the left, all in the same disposition as on the Sprint, Sprint Veloce,
Spider, and Super Spider or Spider Veloce. So Bertone, and Scaglione in
particular, would seem to have pioneered the tachometer location centered in
the driver's line-of-sight, at least for Alfa. The 1900 Super, ti Super, and
Primavera all had the arrangement Biba describes, with speedometer and
tachometer flanking an on-axis multigauge.

I'll leave it at that. It could go on interminably, but shouldn't. Some may
see the Alfetta layout as Alfa's finest design moment, but some others won't.
Fair enough, plenty of room for different opinions, and enough said.

Cheers,

John H.
