There was an interesting article in the San Jose, CA newspaper today about
CarFax. The conclusion is that they do not catch all negative history on all
cars.  It cites several examples of people who bought cars with clean
reports that were pieced-together from wrecks upon visual inspection. Use it
as a starting point, but also use your own eyes and that of a mechanic, if
necessary

Your safety and money are on the line. CarFax will only refund what you paid
them.
