[alfa] 164 Fuel and Brake Lines



The majority of 164s are in the ten year old region. My Alfa specialist has
warned me to beware of the fuel and brake pipes wherever they 'go behind'
something, like the fuel tank ; where they are clipped to the bodyshell, as
this is a rust start point, and where they connect to flexis for the same
reason

Injection fuel rail aside, this is not a 164 problem per se, but an ageing car
problem and  a personal car maintainance issue.

If you want a new car that apparently brews up nicely try a Peugeot 307.
Peugeot in the UK issued a delicate invitation to owners to have their cars
inspected, but did not say why, so the takeup was small and the
ignition/immobiliser circuits overheat and the car goes up in flames. They
were the main  topic on our main BBC TV consumer programme last week so have
firmly shot themselves in the foot by trying to hide the problem.  I saw a
five year old Peugeot 406 yesterday with the bonnet/hood rusted through. I'm
not a Peugeot fan much these days, the quality is pretty poor and the
previously robust  but advanced engineering a mere memory.

Incidentally the revised Alfa 166 looks heaps better...but four years too
late...sigh!
