also, race tracks are much smoother than streets (well, except for nelson
ledges.) you put up with a lot of things on race tracks that just plain
hurt too much on streets.
as it happens, sometimes you stiffen a part in a race car for longevity
reasons. for a non-alfa example, VW racers in SCCA IT usually go to
spherical bearings in the rear suspension because once you've stiffened
every thing else up, the suspension tears rubber or poly to shreds in no
time.
