Re: Spirax, and short 1st change interval



My understanding is that a short first change interval can be a good
idea when you're trying to remove all of a previous lube whose
characteristics you may not have liked.  Draining the old fluid doesn't
get all of it out, so the first fill of new lube has some amount of old
lube mixed in.  Especially with synthetics that stick well, running for
a few hundred miles with the new lube gets all of the old stuff off the
moving parts (and mixed in), and changing it a second time gets it all
out and you then finally have a refill with all new oil.  Seemed
reasonable enough that it's what I did when switching from synthetic to
Spirax in the gearbox of my GTV.
