Ted's Verde ABS

It appears to be leaking from the one line going to the drivers side front
caliper (in the wheel well). Its wet in that area, but also some paint in the
well has peeled off (so its been leaking a while ).
There is a "ball" that has a high pressure
warning label on it, it is attached to some sort of motor ( ) that is making a
humming noise when the ignition is switched on (even without turning the car
over)...like its building up pressure.

Just under that part, is where the fluid seems to be leaking.

Am I on the right track?

Yup Ted you are. It does sound as though you've got a buggered caliper hose--
and so you should replace all of them. As for under the hood leak: that 'ball'
is the pressure accumulator for the ABS system, pressure is provided by the
pump upon which it rests. The accumulator needs to be replaced, likely, or you
have a leak from the pump itself. Because the accumulator or pump is leaking,
the system will never achieve pressure and the pump will fry from running all
the time (= expensive). For the leak in the pump area, you may be able to
ascertain whether or not its a fitting in a to/from hose, one of the hoses or
the pump itself. The pumps are for most purposes considered 'non-service items'
(mechanic talk for: can only be replaced, not repaired....). In all, as long as
the pump housing/casing isn't leaking, the fixes shouldn't be all that bad or
expensive. Good luck,

Adam
