Any idea what causes that? Does the lock mechanism need to be replaced? Is there a spring broken? Did you have a locksmith evaluate it? Four times! Bless you, you're more patient than I.
Thanks for the enlightenment. Hopefully, since this has not been talked about before not a 'when' but maybe an "'If' this ever happens."

Stop trying to open the door and use a welding rod or similar to push down on the tab.
Then open the door.
