164 electric cooling fan sillyness

Hi!
my '94 164Q which typically runs ~165 degrees was
regularly getting up over 200 degrees after just
a few minutes of driving in town, when i realized
that the electric cooling fan was not ever running!

the control circuit fuse was OK, the power fuse was OK,
as was the fan, resistor, relays, connections, i replaced the
radiator mounted temperature switch, finally noticed
the fan going on for just a few seconds then shutting off.
there was a hairling crack in the 40A power fuse (mounted
in plastic box on the firewall) a few seconds of current
made it warm enough to twist a little & open the circuit!

also, i'd forgotten that by turning on the A/C, a freon
pressure switch makes the fan come on at low speed, a convenient
way to test the fan circuitry without having the engine idling
at 220 degrees, an engine and cooling system test it passed admirably
    but i'd rather not repeat!
