Re: Alarm remote range

I thought the 164's had a infrared alarm, not a radio-frequency alarm?! This would explain the low range. I basically have to be at the door and pointing the clicker right at the receiver to lock and unlock on my 164.

I just reconnected the alarm system on my 164 (dpo removed the siren) and have discovered that the remote control's range is terrible. It fluctuates a little, but generally I have to stand by one of the rear doors for it to work. The led on the remote lights up and I've tried changing the battery and adjusting the trim pot inside the remote, but I can't seem to get better than ~6' (from the trunk) out of it.
Does the factory alarm system have its own antenna or does it tie in to the radio antenna (my radio antenna is broken at the moment)? Is there anything else that might cause this (sun spots, reduced frequency of waxing regiment, bad juju)?
