Re: alfa-digest V9 #545
Espen Segal asked the Alfaluminati:
"What I can only assume to be my pilot bearing has just started to make
noises in the last thousand miles or so. I know this is not of immediate
concern, but it's annoying. Has anyone had luck with any super
lubricants (Lucas, etc.) to help quiet this down or help it last longer?"
The bearing in our '87's transaxle was starting to growl when we drove
it home from Spruell's, back in '95. Just before we moved to California,
in 2000, we finally replaced the whole transaxle. In the interim we had
put almost 40,000 miles on the car. It had been loud enough to be really
annoying for several years by then, but our factory-trained mechanic
didn't seem particularly concerned. He did tell us that no, there was no
lubricant that would make it shut up.
