NWARC Track Day

I tried to post this on Sunday evening but for some reason my mail
bounced. Anyhoo...

Sunday was my first track event ever. NWARC put it together and did a
great job. I was a Turn Worker which, while cold, was great! You get the
best view in the house.

I was surprised to see the diversity in cars that showed up: Alfas,
Ferraris (more on that in a bit), Beemers, Porches, Mazdas, Acuras,
Nissans, a Geo Metro, Mustangs and a Ginetta. I'm sure there was more
but that's all I can remember for now. The other thing that was cool was
how nice veryone was. Lot's of good B.S. sessions took place. I got to
meet some great ppl. When I see you all again I probably won't remember
all of your names so forgive me.

I was able to snap a few photos w/ my digicam. I forgot my 35mm at home
like an idiot so the photos aren't that great (digicam cannot quite get
a good photo of an Alfa flying around the track). Next time it's fast
film and autowinder time. Of course the first photo you'll see is of a
rather special car that just showed up. Needless to say, jaws dropped.
Of course I loved Hans' black 1750 Berlina...now that is a true "bad
guy" car. There was also a very nicely restored Sprint...but my cameras
battery was dead by the time it showed up:

The highlight was the ride around the track I got with Thomas Moll in
his surprisingly fast Alfetta Sprint and the advanced drivers. It had
been raining so the track was wet but that did not slow down these
fiends. They are fast and can really drive. There is something about
sliding at high speeds around a wet corner that will make you say to
yourself, "Hmmm...I guess I don't know jack about driving." It was a
wild ride, way better than any rollercoaster I've been on. I truly hope
that someone got some photos of us and the black GTV all drifting
sideways through turn 3b. It was like syncronized swimming. Perhaps
Steve Schaeffer will post a little bit about this spectacle.

Please keep in mind that these were all very experienced drivers and
while it was a wild ride it was never ever out of control. These guys
were having fun and being safe.

All and all it was a great time. I was able to work the turn, go fast
and learn about how the track events are put together. I guess the next
step, now that I've earned some track time, is to track my Berlina.

Thanks to all the ppl who made this event a success and damn you all for
giving me the track bug!
