RE: Steering wheel removal...flame-on?
Darren -
Usually the GTV-6/Milano steering wheels come off pretty easily compared to
those on the 105/115 cars.
Personally, I don't think I'd use heat there. There are two many things
immediately behind the steering wheel that could be damaged.
I've been able to remove GTV-6 and Milano wheels (not spiders) by simply
pulling real hard on the wheel from either side while simultaneously rocking
it from side to side. Just be careful that you don't smack yourself in the
face with it if it breaks free.
If that doesn't work, I'd try to find a steering wheel puller or harmonic
balance puller small enough to work. Usually the problem with these is
finding some long enough 6mm bolts. This is one of those instances where
access to the proper factory tool makes short work of an otherwise
frustrating situation.
I was once told by an old timer at an alignment shop that he removed
stubborn steering wheels with a few short blasts of an air hammer with a
blunt tip right on the end of the steering column will loosen them right up.
Never tried it myself though, so do so at your own risk.

Subject: Steering wheel removal...flame-on?
I checked back issues of the digest for suggestions on getting the steering
wheel off my GTV6, but didn't find any that mentioned taking a lightweight
torch to the center bolt for a little expansion magic.
Does anyone see this as a problem, or has anyone tried it before?
Thanks in advance,
Darren
