Gas Tank - Is this normal??

Hi Folks,

     My gas tank generates so much vacume that it actually distorts when I
open the cap.  I've taken to SLOWLY, backing of the cap to let the pressure
equialize.  Is this normal, or a sign of a common problem that you might be
aware of
