Re: Any 1994 or 1995 Alfa 164Q's available for sale?
From Jason (orginal author)...
I am in Chicago. As far as experience with Alfa's and mechanics, well I
have owned a '73 Spider for 10 years and used to be a mechanic, an
automotive engineer, etc. I think I could handle most of the repairs, but
do the 164's have chronic problems and repair bills?
I love my '73 Spider ans will never sell it, but all you digesters got me
thinking I am not a real Alfisti if I only own one Alfa! I figured if I am
going to own another, why not a 164Q??
Also, I have been seeing these 164Q's listed for as much as $18,000! Kelly
Blue Book is talking less than $8K in excellent condition. What am I
missing here??!!
Any additional thoughts? Why would you sell your 164 off, too much
trouble??

Also, if anyone has any perspective to offer on these vehicles (vs. a
164L, S, or LS) or in general, I would really appreciate it.
You don't post where you are located. If you don't live near a qualified
mechanic experienced with quad cam engines, esp the Alfa V6; ( I'd trust
a Ferrari mechanic $$$$$ to be able to figure out the 24 v V6)
OR and note that's a BIG OR if alternatively you are not a skilled
mechanic with the special tools and similar experience.
Then Caveat Emptor or in the vernacular, Buyer Beware!
My wife and I own both a '91 12 v and '94 24 v (both automatics) 164.
They are great cars, fun to drive, luxurious. Great Highway cruisers.
Lots of luggage space, good back seat! But, they have their maintenance
issues. If you want a V6 at about 600-700 lbs lighter a Milano (assume
you're looking for a V6) Verde is quite a package.
Lastly we bought in the spring of '02 a '92 automatic spider for its
timing chain and relative simplicity. And because my wife fell in love
with it. I see it as the Alfa we'll still have in 20 years.
Best Wishes,
Bernie Bennett
