> Subject: V-6 Timing Belt Burning Smell?

Congrats on the new addition, Dennis!

You mention that this happens when accelerating over 4000 rpm; conventional
wisdom on the Digest (is this an oxymoron?) has suggested in the past that
the tachometers in these cars often show inaccurate readings. Is it possible
you are running into the dreaded rev-limiter? I know that mine has shown
less than the 5800 rpm limit (I think) when it has cut in, and when the
engine shuts down, I believe the auxiliary drive belts might slip and chafe.
I have definitely smelled rubber on that occasion, and have learned to shift
sooner (duh!).

Cheers!
