Re: Removal of 164 Instrument pod
Look at the little trim strips each side of steering wheel where it says
'Trip' and 'Test' above buttons and instrument dimmer. These prise out using
v.small screwdriver to reveal two small phillips screws. Remove these and
carefully remove the plastic panel directly below the instruments. When this
panel is removed it reveals two larger phillips screws at base of instrument
panel. Remove these and instrument panel will lift Upwards..do not pull
towards you as the panel is held by two T shaped lugs that correspond to
brackets on the car.
Movement is quite restricted as there are two multiplugs on each side of the
panel. Everything is electronic so there is no speedo cable to disconnect, but
remove these multiplugs with care. Their wires are held in built in clips on
back of the pod. Your instrument panel should now come out.
Replacement is the reverse of removal. It is fairly straightforward but like
all these jobs it can be fiddly so just go steady. Panel light bulbs are 12v
1.2W capless.
Good Luck
