Boxer Engine

Alfisti, 

Having been living in Greece for the last six months working on the upcoming Olympic Games, I have noticed many Alfa 33s running around Athens.  Some of these 33s have a boxer nameplate.

Does this nameplate reflect the type of engine?  If so, what is a boxer engine?

A curious Alfisti and hopefully I will not be treated like mraxlerose.....
